JEDI Committee

Please complete the JEDI Survey

This year Palomar Council started the JEDI committee (Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion) in response to recent events. One of our goals is to help parents navigate discussions about race with their children, fellow parents, and teachers.

Please fill out this short anonymous survey about your experiences with racial equity in PUSD! Please also share it with the parents and teachers at your school!

Justice, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (JEDI)
Committee Goals

  • Support a Safe, Respectful Learning Environment in PUSD Schools. The Committee believes that all PUSD schools should be a safe, respectful learning environment for students, parents, teachers and administrators. We believe that key elements of a safe, respectful learning environment are justice, equity, diversity and inclusion.  To achieve this goal the Committee will share knowledge and skills around antiracism, equity and cultural awareness/competence with the greater PUSD community.

  • Raise Awareness on Issues of Racism and Injustice in PUSD Schools.  The Committee recognizes community concerns surrounding issues of racism and injustice in PUSD schools. Committee members will work to deepen  understanding of how systemic racism and inequity can manifest in schools through policy and practices. Throughout this process, we will strive to be self-reflective and continue learning about best practices, innovative approaches, resources and programs that will benefit the PUSD schools community.

  • The Committee will share our knowledge with PTA members during meetings, events, and on social media. We will generate ideas for events and workshops based around anti-racist and equity work, as well as presenting videos and information about resources at PTA meetings.

  • Create Data-Driven Trainings/Workshops. The Committee will develop training/workshops for the PUSD community on issues surrounding justice, equity, diversity and inclusion. To develop targeted and useful training/workshops, the Committee will use data collected from Committee surveys, PUSD and affiliated groups. The training/workshops will be open to PUSD parents, teachers, students and the community at large.

  • Provide Advocacy and Support for PUSD Students. The Committee is inspired by PUSD students and their concerns. As such, the Committee recognizes the importance of listening to PUSD students  and providing a safe space for their experiences to be shared. In addition, the Committee hopes to be an advocate to amplify student voices throughout PUSD.

  • Be an Information Resource for PUSDAdministratorsand Teachers. The Committee will identify, collect and share resources with faculty and staff to aid in their efforts to maintain a safe, respectful learning environment. As part of that effort the Committee will focus on practices for establishing and maintaining an inclusive school culture, including freedom from microaggressions, and cultural awareness and sensitivity.

  • Establish, Expand and Support an Advocacy Network. Committee members will leverage our organizational networks to strengthen and expand our outreach, influence, and effectiveness. The Committee will seek to communicate and partner with other advocacy groups to inform them of our efforts, offer support and provide a platform for their efforts and programs.

JEDI’s goals are in alignment and support PUSD’s Comprehensive Racial Equity and Inclusion Plan, specifically, section 1, Fostering Relational Trust.
